Can I be Certified in Motivational Interviewing?
There actually is no certification in Motivational Interviewing.
If a program is advertising it, they are using false advertising (and a quick google search will give you some leads that don’t pan out, as they lure you to their websites!)
So rather than becoming certified in Motivational Interviewing, there ARE certificate programs in Motivational Interviewing! In fact, we have created one!
We are offering an online certificate program in Motivational Interviewing that offers a ton of live experiential training.
No, not hours and hours of self-paced modules…because face it, less than 10% of people finish asynchronous courses. The bulk of our Motivational Interviewing certificate program is live virtual training.
In our MI Academy certificate program, you will complete 30 hours of experiential LIVE practice learning and practicing Motivational Interviewing.
Experiential practice is essential to learning Motivational Interviewing. If you are learning a new language, or a new sport or instrument, you can’t just passively watch a video, it takes actual practice and experience to get better. Attending a 10-hour online video class on the topic doesn’t translate to speaking competently in that new language, or playing well on the football field!
This means tons of live experiential practice with Motivational Interviewing experts.
You will have actual support for developing these new skills and not having to feel isolated in doing it on your own. In addition to access to self-paced modules, you will be a part of a cohort of others advancing their skill practice through live virtual training, practice sessions and individualized feedback of your sessions.
We have created a pathway to competency in Motivational Interviewing that we believe meets most learners’ needs. Graduates of the MI Academy will receive a Certificate of Advanced MI Practice (CAMIP) and be added to our online database.
We have a ton more information on our certificate program here.
